Meet Melisa Ricks : Clay

Melisa RicksMelisa RicksMelisa Ricks

Clay is a medium I never explored until my late twenties. I viewed art as a hobby rather than a vocation, then I discovered ceramic art.

I am an overly neat person yet I can make a huge mess with clay and never feel guilty. I love the artistic freedom sculpture and mosaic allows me in both form and color. My current body of work focuses on the whimsy and beautiful colors that are found in the wonderful undersea landscape we only get to visit on occasion. Each piece is hand sculpted. Glazes are then applied in layers to help create depth and add dimension.

Though my work has evolved I still enjoy taking risks and finding new ways to express myself through art. I believe art should invoke feelings of joy, especially to the one creating.

"If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water." Enjoy.
